Kenyon Lifts Women's Soccer Past Maine, 1-0
September 03, 2016 | Women's Soccer
Junior forward scores game winner just 30 seconds after entering match.
AMHERST, Massachusetts - Just 30 seconds after entering the match, junior forward Gabriela Kenyon scored what stood as the game-winning strike lifting the UMass women's soccer team over Maine 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field. The goal was the second of Kenyon's career and her first game-winner.
UMass improves to 2-2 overall while the Black Bears fell to 3-2 on the year. The Minutewomen were originally slated to host Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 9 but the match was called off. Due to games along the East Coast being impacted by inclement weather this weekend, a replacement game could be announced early this upcoming week.
Kenyon's goal came in the 23rd minute after a nice feed from Salma Anastasio. As Kenyon collected down the right side of the goal box and slipped a defender, Maine's keeper Annalena Kriebisch charged off her line. Kenyon was able to slide the shot past Kriebisch tucking her shot inside the left goal post.
The Minutewomen held a 16-to-8 advantage in shots for the match while Maine had a 5-to-4 edge in corner kicks.
Cassidy Babin made six saves to earn her second clean sheet of the season and the ninth of her career. Kriebish made three saves in the loss.
