Men's Soccer Hosts Saint Peter's In Rudd Field Opener

Minutemen and Peacocks kickoff at 3 p.m. as second match of doubleheader.
AMHERST, Massachusetts – It's the home-opening weekend for the UMass men's soccer team as the Minutemen host Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. following the women's match against Maine which is set for a 12:30 p.m. start.

UMass (0-2) is coming off a pair of losses at No. 6 Syracuse and at Colgate last weekend to open the season.

In both matches, the Minutemen held the Orange and the Raiders scoreless in the first half before conceding second half goals.

The Minutemen will also have a bit of home-field advantage over the next two weeks with four-of-five games at Rudd Field. Following the Saint Peter's match, UMass will host New Hampshire on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Peacocks opened the season with a pair of losses to Seton Hall and at St. John's.

Saint Peter's has rotated goals in the two games with Jamie Cleland and Brandon Pereira each starting a match. Cleland has a 2.00 goals-against-average and a .714 save percentage, while Pereira has a 3.00 GAA and a .571 save percentage.

For the Minutemen, Jorge Becerra started in both matches last week with a 2.50 goals-against-average and a .773 save percentage. He made eight saves at Syracuse before adding a career-high nine saves against Colgate.
