Tamara Tatham, Canadian National Team Set to Start Rio Olympics

UMass alum to play in her second Olympic games with Canadian women’s basketball team.
AMHERST, Massachusetts – Former UMass women's basketball standout Tamara Tatham (Brampton, Ontario) will compete in her second Olympic games this weekend as a member of the Canadian National Team. The squad will compete in Group B which includes the United States, Senegal, Serbia, Spain and China.
Tatham and the Canadian team finished in the top-eight of the 2012 London Games and will begin the 2016 Rio Games on Saturday, August 6 against China (3:30 PM ET).
In 2015, Team Canada won the 2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship in Edmonton, Alberta to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. The women's national team went undefeated in the tournament and beat Cuba in the final to qualify for its second-straight Olympics. Prior to the Olympic qualifying tournament, the women's national team went 5-0 at the Pan Am Games to earn their first-ever gold at the competition.
A 2007 graduate from the University of Massachusetts, Tatham achieved career-best averages with 12.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game as a senior. Tatham currently ranks sixth all-time in career rebounds for the Minutewomen with 755 and fifth in career steals with 190.
Tatham has represented Canada on the international stage since 2005, when she competed with the Development Women's National Team at the 2005 Universiade. In 2007, she earned a spot on the Senior Women's National Team.
