Women's Soccer Heads to Florida for Pair of Matches

Minutewomen play UCF, South Florida this week
AMHERST, Massachusetts - After a season-opening win just down the road at Holy Cross, the UMass women's soccer team (1-0) heads to the Sunshine State to take on UCF and South Florida this week. The Minutewomen will face UCF in Orlando on Thursday night (7 p.m.) before then travelling to Tampa to play USF on Sunday afternoon (1 p.m.).
UMass opened the season on Monday with a 2-0 win at Holy Cross. Senior forward Megan Burke notched the game's opening goal before freshman forward Rebeca Frisk added an insurance goal late in the match. Junior keeper Cassidy Babin and the defense earned the clean sheet with the shutout.
UCF is 0-2 this season after losses against North Carolina and Duke over the weekend. The match against the Minutewomen will be the home opener for the Knights. The Bulls are 2-0 after wins against Louisiana-Monroe and Florida International. USF will travel to Kentucky on Thursday night before returning hom to host UMass on Sunday.
Thursday's game will mark the 10th time that UMass and UCF have met on the pitch since 1982. UMass owns a 5-1-3 record against the Knights with the last meeting in 1995. Sunday's match with USF marks the first time the two sides have ever played.
The Minutewomen will open their home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 3 when they host Maine (12:30 p.m.) at Rudd Field as part of a doubleheader with the men's program. Admission and parking for both matches are free to all.
