Women's Lax to Face Princeton in NCAA First Round

AMHERST, Mass. - After winning its eighth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship title, the UMass women's lacrosse team will head to Ithaca, N.Y., to play Princeton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game will be played on Friday, May 13 at Schoellkopf Field with the time to be announced later.

The winner of the first round match-up will face the winner of No. 8 seed Cornell, who will be hosting the weekend, vs. Canisius game. The two first round winners will play on Sunday, May 15 in the NCAA Second Round.

With its win over Richmond for the Atlantic 10 title, UMass enters the NCAA Tournament with an 18-1 overall record and has won 14 straight games. This marks the 11th time UMass has reached the NCAA Tournament including eight consecutive appearances. The Minutewomen won the first-ever NCAA Tournament in 1982 and reached the NCAA Semifinals in 1983 and 1984.

Last season, UMass defeated Jacksonville in the NCAA First Round before falling to eventual national champion Maryland in the second round.

Princeton won its 12th Ivy League title this year and is 11-5 overall. The Tigers hold the third-most NCAA Tournament appearances of any program with 24 and have won three national titles (1994, 2002, 2003).
