Minutewomen Fall to #14 Boston College, 9-8

NEWTON, Mass. - Hannah Murphy and Nicole Troost each scored three goals a piece, but it wasn't enough as the University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team fell to the 14th ranked Boston College, 9-8 on Wednesday afternoon at the Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field in Newton, Mass.
Boston College improves to 3-2 on the season, while the Minutewomen drop to 4-1 in 2016.
Trailing by two goals with less than nine minutes remaining, Troost scored her third goal after Murphy put her in front of the net with a pass.
Boston College ran out the closing minutes of the game, but the Massachusetts took possession with 16 seconds remaining in the game.
The Minutewomen trailed by a goal heading into the second half, but led for most of the opening frame. In first half action, Hannah Murphy and Nicole Troost each scored twice for UMass.
Murphy's scores were the first two of the game, each within the first four minutes of the game. Her first score was 16 seconds into the contest, when after winning a draw control, she ran toward the BC goal and scored while running away from the cage.
Erika Eipp and Murphy each added two assists in the game. Callie Santos and Eileen McDonald rounded out the UMass goal scorers.
Sam Walters was pegged with the loss, moving her to 4-1 on the season. Aileen Kelly allowed just two BC goals in the second half, standing strong for the Minutewomen defense.
