Leidel Named A-10 Women's Hoops Rookie of the Week

Freshman guard now third leading scorer in A-10 after averaging 21 points last week.

AMHERST, Mass. - After averaging 21 points in a pair of wins for the UMass women's basketball team, freshman Hailey Leidel (Brownstown, Mich.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

The Minutewomen improved to 4-2 on the season with a 76-37 win over Central Connecticut and a 73-44 win against Merrimack bookending the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition to her 21 points, Leidel also averaged six rebounds and 5.5 assists in the two games.

In the win over CCSU, Leidel scored 16 points with four rebounds and a season-high seven assists. She followed that with a season-high 26 points, her second 20-point game of the year, in the win over Merrimack. Against the Warriors she hit 9-of-12 field goals including 4-of-6 three-pointers while collecting eight rebounds and handing out four assists.

This marks the second time this season Leidel has been named the A-10 Rookie of the Week. For the year, she is averaging 17 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.8 steals per game. She leads the Minutewomen in scoring and in minutes played logging 38.7 per contest.

UMass returns to action on Wednesday night at Hartford (6 p.m.) riding a three-game win streak.
