Women's Swimming Leads Colgate Invitational After Day One

Maja Boric, Ansley Baker and Meriza Werenski pick up event wins on first day.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Paced by a NCAA qualifying performance in the one-meter dive by Maja Boric and a first-place finishes by Meriza Werenski and Ansley Baker, the UMass women's swimming and diving team finished day one of the Colgate Invitational in first place. The meet resumes a full day of action on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
 
Boric won the one-meter dive with a score of 286.95 points which stands as the fourth-best performance in UMass history. It was also an NCAA automatic qualifying score.
 
Werenski took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2-minutes, 10.03 seconds, while Baker won the 50 freestyle in 24.47 seconds.
 
Olga Egkorova took third in the 500 free, while Jenn Robeson took fourth in the 200 IM.
 
UMass picked up big points in the one-meter dive taking first-through-fourth. Emma Roush placed second followed by Katie Polk and Julia Jagannath. The quartet combined for a total of  68 of UMass' 237.5 points.
 
Saint Francis was second overall with 203.5 points, while Colgate was third with 166 points to pace the seven-team field.
