October 07, 2016 | Men's Soccer

Minutemen and Rams set for 1 p.m. kickoff.

AMHERST, Mass. - After closing out its non-conference slate with a 1-0 win over Central Connecticut on Tuesday, the UMass men's soccer team resumes Atlantic 10 play on Sunday afternoon at Fordham. The Minutemen and Rams are set for a 1 p.m. kickoff and the match will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.

The Minutemen opened their league schedule with a 0-0 draw against Dayton a week ago. UMass stands 3-6-2 overall but have gone 3-1-1 over the last five matches. Included in that stretch are three shutouts with eight goals scored. The shutout over Central Connecticut marked the first time since August 2012 that the Minutemen had pitched back-to-back shutouts.

Alex DeSantis, Ty Goncalves and Henry Steinkamp are tied for the UMass lead in goals scored with two each. Overall, nine different Minutemen have tallied goals this season. DeSantis also has a team-best four assists and eight total points followed by Steinkamp who has six points this season.

Keeper Jorge Becerra is the owner of the three shutouts this season and sports a 1.65 goals-against-average and a 0.732 save percentage through 11 starts.

Fordham is 3-4-3 on the year and opened Atlantic 10 play with a tie at George Washington and a 2-1 loss at Dayton. Janos Loebe leads Fordham with eight points on three goals and two assists. Eric Ohlendorf and Cole Stevenson each have two goals as well. Rashid Nuhu has been the keeper of record for the year with a 1.01 goals-against-average and a 0.744 save percentage.

The first half will be key on Sunday as the Rams have been outscored 7-to-1 in the opening stanza this season. Conversely, UMass has outscored its opposition 7-to-6 in the first half.

UMass will return home to Rudd Field on Wednesday, Oct. 12 to host St. Bonaventure (4 p.m.) before then heading on the road to Davidson (Oct. 15) and Rhode Island (Oct. 19).
