Massachusetts, Gillette Stadium to Host 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship

UMass to host first NCAA Championship event since 2003.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Athletics and Gillette Stadium will host the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship, it was announced on Friday. The championship weekend will be held Friday, May 26 and Sunday, May 28 in conjunction with the Divisions I, II, and III men's championships.
This will be the first NCAA Championship UMass has served as host institution for since the 2003 NCAA Field Hockey Semifinals and Championship were played at Garber Field. UMass also hosted the 1995 NCAA Volleyball Championship at the Mullins Center. It will also be the first time since 2006 that the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship has been hosted in Massachusetts (Boston University).
"The University of Massachusetts is proud to serve as the host institution and partner with our friends at Gillette Stadium," said Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford. "This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate women's lacrosse at the home of champions."
The 2017 season marks the first ever that the NCAA Division I men's and women's championships will be hosted at the same venue and the fourth time the men's championships will be held at Gillette Stadium.
In 2008, Gillette Stadium set attendance records for the Division I final (48,970) and the Division II and III finals (24,317). The championships were also played in Foxborough in 2009 and 2012, attracting fans from 47 states and six international countries to the events.
