Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at Rhode Island

Jackie Miller's first goal of the year helps Minutewomen earn point in league standings.
KINGSTON, R.I. - Jackie Miller notched her first career goal in the 52nd minute of play, but Rhode Island equalized three minutes later as the UMass women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with the Rams on Saturday afternoon.
The result moved the Minutewomen to 2-9-2 on the year and 0-5-1 in Atlantic 10 play. UMass will host the nex tthree consecutive matches at home beginning this Thursday, Oct. 20 with Duquesne before having VCU visit Rudd Field on Sunday, Oct. 23 for Alumni Weekend.
The score for Miller broke open the deadlock from the first half despite both teams getting several quality chances. She buried a feed from Alyssa Fratarcangelli at the 51:36 mark of the match putting UMass up 1-0.
The Rams (4-6-4, 1-3-2 A-10) found the game-tying goal three minutes later, however, when Alish Kahelemanners scored on an assist by Nicole Brennan.
Both teams had good chances in the final two minutes of regulation, but UMass' Cassidy Babin and Rhody's Katie Nickles each made timely saves to force overtime.
The first overtime saw URI take a pair of wide shots in the first four minutes of action. UMass carried the final three minutes with four shots including one saved by Nickles with 90 seconds remaining. The Minutewomen managed a corner kick in the final six seconds, but could not find the go-ahead score.
Each side produced two shots in the second overtime, but were again unable to crack the defense. The Rams earned a corner in the 110th minute which UMass was able to turn away.
Babin finished the day with eight saves, while her counterpart Nickles made six.
Both teams generated 21 shots with UMass holding a 7-to-5 advantage in corner kicks.
