Balanced Performances Lead Swimming To Sweep Of Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The UMass men's and women's swimming teams swept Bryant on Saturday afternoon with the Minutemen winning 162-100 and the Minutewomen taking a 146-116 victory.
On the women's side, UMass took first nine different events. The men's team placed first in 10 events including both relays. The Minutemen took the top three spots in the 50 freestyle and the 200 freestyle.
Leading the way for the Minutewomen was Dasha Egkorova, Jocelyn Yuen, Ansley Baker, Kate Orr, and Meriza Werenski who each took first and second in multiple events. Egkorova placed first in the 100 back and 2nd in the 200 back, while Yuen won the 200 fly and finished second in the 200 fly. Baker took first in the 100 free and second in the 200 breast, followed by Orr who won the 500 free and was second in the 200 free. Werenski won the 200 individual medley and took second in the 200 breast.
Other first place finishers included Jenn Robeson in the 1,000 free, Cassie Sosnovich in the 50 free, and Rachel Grant in the 100 fly.
Yuen, Maddie Biron, Sosnovich, and Baker teamed up to win the 400 free relay to close out the meet.
The Minutemen started the afternoon with a win in the 400 medley relay with the squad of Oliver Wyeth, Owen Wright, Connar Patterson and Wiktor Karpinski.
The 200 free and 50 free were major point winner events for UMass which took the top three spots in each. In the 200 free, Eric Pauls won the event followed by Patterson and Alex Mesisca. In the 50 free, Wright took first followed by Karpinski and Brian Stiles.
Wright added a win in the 100 free and was a member of the first-place 400 free relay as well.
Patterson added a second-place finish in the 200 back, while Alessandro Bomprezzi won the 500 free and placed 2nd in the 100 back.
Other top performers included Kyle Vieira who won the 1,000 free, Christopher DiGiacomo who won the 200 butterfly, and Heath Maginn who won the 200 back.
UMass closed the meet winning the 400 free relay with Wright, Stiles, Wyeth, and Karpinski teaming up for the first-place performance.
Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to action next Friday and Saturday, January 22-23, at the Dartmouth Invitational which will be held in White River Junction, Vt. Friday's action will start at 5 p.m., while Saturday's events will begin at 10 a.m.
