Women's Lacrosse Announces Newcomers For 2016 Campaign

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's lacrosse head coach Angela McMahon has announced the addition of 13 newcomers to the program which will be seeking its eighth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship title this spring. In addition to the 11 freshmen additions, the Minutewomen are also adding Florida transfer Hannah Burnett and Cincinnati transfer Alex Flobeck to the squad.

"We're very excited to add this terrific group of student-athletes to our program," said head coach Angela McMahon. "I think the skills, passion and competitive spirit will enhance our program as we work to achieve our goal of an Atlantic 10 championship title and a berth to the NCAA Tournament."

Hannah Burnett
Sophomore  Attack  5-7  Huntington, N.Y.  Huntington HS  Florida
Joins UMass after playing freshman campaign at the University of Florida in 2014 ... Was an SEC All-Academic Team selection with the Gators ... Played in five games with one goal and five groundballs ... An outstanding prep player for Kathy Wright at Huntington High School where she was a 2013 U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American ... Notched 72 goals and 42 assists as a senior ... Finished her career with 185 goals and 126 assists ... As a senior in 2013, ranked 3rd on Long Island overall in points ... Listed on ESPN's Player Watch List as a sophomore and junior ... Selected to the Suffolk County All-Division squad in 2011, 2012 and 2013 ... Also a three-time all-county selection in soccer and was a two-year member of the basketball team ... Academically, was a four-year selection as a New York State Scholar-Athlete for both soccer and lacrosse, was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Presidents's Education Award For Outstanding Academic Excellence.

Leah Chittick
Freshman  Midfielder  5-7  North Andover, Mass.  North Andover HS
A four-year letterwinner at North Andover High School under head coach Meredith Prior ... Helped the Scarlet Knights win a pair of Merrimack Valley Conference titles during her career ... Was a two-time MVC Player of the year as a junior (2014) and senior (2015) ... Earned All-America accolades as a senior in 2015 ... Was twice tabbed an Eastern Mass All-Star and earned all-conference honors three consecutive years ... Named to the Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic teams as well ... Finished her career with 291 goals and 135 assists ... Also an all-conference performer in soccer and basketball.

Mia Darroch
Freshman  Attack  5-4  Weymouth, Mass.  Carthage (NY) HS
A four-year letterwinner at Carthage High School in New York where she played under Meredith Dicetis and John Connolly ... Was a four-year scholar-athlete and a four-sport athlete as she also competed in soccer, basketball and volleyball ... Netted 78 career goals and 55 career assists ... As a senior, tallied 47 goals and 47 assists.

Cassidy Doster
Freshman  Midfielder  5-4  LaFayette, N.Y.  LaFayette HS
A four-year all-league member for LaFayette High School under head coach Rick Storrior ... Helped the Lancers win four consecutive league titles ... As a senior in 2015, was earned All-America accolades ... Was a first-team all-league selection as a junior and senior along with be honored to the All-CNY squad ... As a senior, posted 62 goals and 65 assists which is a school record ... Finished her career with 161 goals and 156 assists ... Also a member of the soccer, basketball and cross country programs where she was an all-league performer during her career ... Academically, was a member of the National Honor Society and recognized as a scholar-athlete.

Alex Flobeck
Sophomore  Defender  5-3  Mount Sinai, N.Y.  Mount Sinai HS  Cincinnati
Joins UMass after playing freshman season at Cincinnati in 2015 ... Started all 17 games for the Bearcats and was second on the team with 33 draw controls ... Also posted 23 groundballs and 15 caused turnovers ... Helped Mount Sinai High School to a 36-1 record over her junior and senior seasons, with an undefeated season and New York Class C State Championship as a junior ... Team finished as state runner-up and Long Island champion during freshman year ... Named all-county selection as a junior and senior and all-division selection as a sophomore ... Mount Sinai advanced at least to the Suffolk County Championship game all four years ... Played club for the Long Island Yellow Jackets ... Helped Yellow Jackets to U-15 national title, earning a spot on the U.S. Lacrosse Magazine All-Tournament Team ... Selected for Long Island School Girls team, Suffolk County All-American All-Star Team and Under Armour All-American Team.

Emily Jeffries
Freshman  Midfielder  5-5  Franklin, Mass.  Franklin HS
A four-year letterwinner at Franklin High School where she helped the Panthers to four-consecutive Hockomack League titles ... Earned All-American accolades as a senior in 2015 ... Was a two-time Eastern Mass All-Star in 2014 and 2015 ... As a senior, was the Hockomock League Player of the Year while also being named to the Metro-West Super Team and earning all-scholastic honors from the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe ... A two-time team captain as a junior and senior where she also led the team in scoring ... Had 63 goals, 23 assists, 69 draw controls and 18 groundballs in senior campaign ... For her prep career, finished with 141 goals and 59 assists ... Was also a Hockomock League All-Star in field hockey and a member of the National Honor Society.

Erin MacDevitt
Freshman  Defender  5-8  Sayville, N.Y.  Sayville HS
A three-year letterwinner at Sayville High School for head coach Adam Sznitken where she helped the Flashes post a 43-8 overall record during her career ... Earned all-league honors as a senior in 2015 along with the Sayville Coaches Award ... At the club level, played for the Top Guns program from 2009-14 ... Was also a member of the basketball team where she was a two-time all-league selection and MVP of the team as a senior ... Member of the National Honor Society.

Hannah Palau
Freshman  Attack  5-7  Vero Beach, Fla.  Vero Beach HS
A highly decorated player from Vero Beach High School under head coach Shannon Dean ... A key part of the Fighting Indians' four-year state championship title run which included a 83-12 overall record ... Named the Wendy's Heisman High School winner as a senior in 2015 and earned the ESPN Top 63 Award ... Also as a senior, was an Academic All-American, was honored as the all-area player of the year, was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Lacrosse Player of the Year ... and was the league's offensive player of the year ... Earned all-district first team, all-region first team and all-league first team honors as a sophomore (2013), junior (2014) and senior (2015) ... For her career, posted 99 goals, 121 assists 88 draw controls and 108 groundballs ... In 2015, her 57 assists set a new school record while she also added 42 goals ... Academically, was a member of the National Honor Society, was an honors graduate and an AP Scholar ... Father Mark Palau was a football and basketball at UMass from 1969-73, while her grandfather Andrew G. Palau is a member of the Fordham Hall of Fame as a quarterback who played with Vince Lombardi from 1934-36.

Julia Perry

A three-time All-New Hampshire honoree for Merrimack High School under head coach Paul Drone ... Was also a three-time pick for the Twin State All-Star Team made up of players from New Hampshire and Vermont ... Earned Nashua Telegraph All-Star honors during her career as well ... Served as team captain and team MVP as a senior in 2015 ... During her senior campaign, tallied 33 goals, 14 assists, 45 groundballs, 34 draw controls and 33 caused turnovers ... For her career with the Tomahwaks, recorded 107 goals, 46 assists, 122 groundballs, 92 draw controls and 94 caused turnovers ... Also a standout on the field hockey and track and field teams ... Was a three-time All-New Hampshire selection in field hockey, a two-time state champion in the 300 meters and a three-time New England Championships qualifier ... Academically, earned New Hampshire Scholar honors and NHIA Scholar-Athlete accolades.

Also a member of the field hockey, soccer, cross country and basketball teams during her prep career ... On the court, she helped the basketball team win the Massachusetts State Championship in 2015 and was a Patriot League All-Star in 2014 and 2015 ... Allyson Tolken

Played four years for head coach Rebecca Thorn at Eastport South Manor High School leading the Sharks to the 2015 New York State Championship as a senior ... Samantha Walters
Freshman  Goalie  5-4  Linfield, Pa.  Spring-Ford HS
A three-year letterwinner at Spring Ford High School under head coach Amy Short ... Compiled a career-best .670 save percentage during senior season in 2015 ... Had a .650 career save percentage for the Rams ... Selected to represent Philadelphia in the U.S. Lacrosse National Tournament in 2012, 2013 and 2014 ... Also a member of the soccer and field hockey programs.
