Men's Soccer Falls 4-0 At Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. - Three first half goals paced Albany in a 4-0 win over the UMass men's soccer team on Thursday night at Bob Ford Field. Leo Melgar and Afonso Pinheiro each netted goals in the Great Danes' win.
The Minutemen (0-5-0) return to Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon to host Boston University (1 PM). Admission to the match is free as is parking.
Pinheiro put Albany (3-1-0) on the board first with a long strike in the 17th minute of play. His shot from 20 yards out tucked inside the right post for the goal.
Melgar, who assisted on Pinheiro's earlier goal, put the Great Danes up 2-0 four minutes later. Pinheiro then made it a three-goal game in the 33rd minute heading into intermission.
In the second half, Melgar extended the lead with Albany's fourth goal of the match when he fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box inside the near post in the 52nd minute.
For the match, Albany outshot UMass 14-to-4 and held a 3-to-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Jorge Becerra (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) earned his first start in goal for UMass making four saves. Danny Vitiello earned the win for Albany making one save.
