UMass Women's Soccer Falls At UConn, 5-0

STORRS, Conn. - The UMass women's soccer team took a one-goal deficit into the intermission, but a four-goal second half helped Connecticut pull away for a 5-0 decision on Sunday afternoon at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Following the setback, the Minutewomen sit at 2-4-2 on the season, while the Huskies improve to 6-1-1 overall.
After UMass put two of its first three shots on target in the first half, UConn took a 1-0 lead at the 36:02 mark. Danielle Gottwik drove a free kick from 25 yards out into the top right corner of the net.
Then in the 56th minute, Gottwik set up the Huskies' second of the contest with a through ball to Rachel Hill that she put inside the far post.
Gottwik added her second of the match at the 70:47 mark as UConn proceed to break the game open with three goals in a span of 16 minutes, 24 seconds. Riley Houle logged the final two tallies of the afternoon in the 79th and 88th minutes.
The Huskies finished the day with a 15-9 shot advantage, while UMass led in corner kicks, 6-5. Redshirt sophomore Danielle Kriscenski made three saves for the Minutewomen and Allison Saucier and Emily Armstrong split time in net and logged three saves apiece for UConn. Fouls were 11-3, against the Huskies.
The Minutewomen will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 18, when the squad will play its third straight road match, at Brown in Providence, R.I., at 7 p.m.
