September 18, 2014 | Women's Soccer
Early pressure from Brown yielded a goal for the Bears in the sixth minute. Allie Reilly sent a low cross from the right of the box that Erin Katz tipped past goalkeeper Danielle Kriscenski, off the far post and in for her first of the season.
Sophomore Julia Weithofer came up with one of the best chances for the Minutewomen in the opening half, but her low shot from 15 yards out in the 16th minute was scooped up by Mallory Yant.
Then in the opening minute of the second half, sophomore Daniela Alvarez nearly netted the equalizer, but Yant came up with the stop on the hard strike from close range.
The Bears added their second of the contest in the 67th minute as Chloe Cross tucked a long-range shot in under the crossbar.
The teams finished the match level in shots with 14 apiece, while Brown led in corner kicks, 5-2. Kriscenski played 76:45 in net and totaled eight saves for UMass and freshman Cassidy Babin closed out the final 13:15 and made one stop. Yant registered six saves for the Bears and fouls were 14-9 against the Minutewomen.
UMass will have 11 days until the squad returns to action at Harvard on Monday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m., its final contest before opening Atlantic 10 play.
