AMHERST, Mass. - The Massachusetts women's soccer team took care of business on Friday, defeating St. Bonaventure 2-0 at Rudd Field and earning a solid three points in the Atlantic 10 standings.

The victory vaults UMass (4-7-4, 2-2-1) into a tie for seventh place in the A-10 with three games remaining in the regular season.

On Friday, the Minutewomen put pressure on the Bonnie from the opening whistle, taking four shots in the opening 14 minutes, including a hard liner by Natalie Perussault the caromed off the left post.

UMass broke through at the 17:45 mark when an errant clear attempt by SBU landed right on the foot of Alyssa Fratarcangeli whose one-timer from 20 yards snuck into the left corner of the goal. It was the first score of the season for the sophomore and Georgia Gibson's second assist of 2014.

The Minutewomen continue to apply pressure and had a pair of really strong chances eight minutes later. Fratarcangeli took a shot from near the corner of the 18 that was tipped by SBU goalkeeper Christina Sarokon and then ricocheted off the crossbar. Daniela Alvarez charged in on the loose ball but her attempt was just wide.

UMass was a little flat coming out of the intermission but regained control with more aggressive play.

Megan Burke registered the first shot of the second half but saw her attempt bounce off the cross bar. Burke, Fratarcangeli and Natalie Perussault all finished with a team-high three shots.

The Minutewomen put the game out of reach in the 82nd minute when Breanna Robinson beta a defender just outside the box near the end line, passed it in front where Jackie Bruno collected her team-leading fifth goal of the year on a shot from 10 yards out.

UMass finished with 21 shots and had four corner kicks. The 12 shots on goal were a season-high.

Danielle Kriscenski made eight saves in the contest with her best coming in the 63rd minute on an Abby Maiello strike from 22 yards. The sophomore made an extended diving stop on the attempt to help preserve her third shutout of the year.

SBU (6-9-1, 1-4-0) had 18 shots, including 11 in the second period. Sarokon finished with 10 saves.

UMass will host Duquesne on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the final home game of the year. The team's three seniors will be recognized prior to the contest.
