AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's soccer team picked up its second straight shutout victory on Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field, downing Duquesne 2-0 on Senior Day. With the win, the Minutewomen improve to 5-7-4 on the season, 3-2-1 in the Atlantic 10, while the Dukes drop to 5-9-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the conference.
UMass jumped out to an early lead as freshman Natalie Perussault's initial shot was saved by Duquesne goalkeeper Devon Tabata, but junior Jackie Bruno was there to drive in the rebound in the fifth minute of the match. It was Bruno's team-leading sixth goal of the season and sixth career game-winning goal with Perussault earning an assist for her first collegiate point.
The Minutewomen then increased the margin to 2-0 at the 30:31 mark as Perussault knocked in a cross from sophomore Megan Burke at the doorstep for her first collegiate tally.
Following the intermission, the UMass defense stood tall as the squad was out-shot 14-2 by the Dukes in the second half. Redshirt sophomore Danielle Kriscenski came up with several outstanding saves in the frame, including one she touched off the crossbar, to finish the day with seven stops. It was Kriscenski's second shutout of the weekend after making her return from injury with a 2-0 victory over Saint Bonaventure on Friday afternoon.
Duquesne finished the contest with a 16-5 shot advantage, while UMass led in corner kicks, 6-4. Fouls were 11-10, against the Dukes.
The Minutewomen will wrap up the regular season next Friday and Sunday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, playing a pair of road matches at Richmond and Davidson. The contest against the Spiders is set for a 7 p.m. kick off on Friday night.
