Ferris Named To Preseason Women's Lacrosse All-American Team

AMHERST, Mass. - After a standout 2012 season where she was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and an IWLCA All-American, junior Katie Ferris has been named to the 2013 Preseason All-America Second Team by Inside Lacrosse in its upcoming Face-Off Yearbook. The native of Carthage, N.Y., finished last season as the nation's fourth leading scorer and set UMass and A-10 single-season records with 98 points.
In addition to the three All-America Team honors, Ferris also earned IWLCA All-Region First Team accolades after guiding UMass to a 19-2 overall record, a No. 6 RPI, a fourth-consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship title and the Minutewomen's third NCAA Tournament berth in the last four years. She was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and earned A-10 All-Conference First Team and A-10 All-Tournament Team honors as well.
Ferris led UMass with a team-best 59 goals and 39 assists which were both also single-season records for the program. Overall as a unit, the Minutewomen ranked 2nd in the NCAA in scoring.
Through 39 career games, the attack now has 115 career goals, 55 career assists and 170 career points. She ranks sixth all-time in career goals, sixth all-time in career assists and eighth all-time in career points. She is on pace to shatter all three records in the course of her career at UMass.
Ferris' 2012 campaign came on the heels of a freshman season in 2011 that saw her earn SynapseSports.com Rookie All-American honors along with IWLCA All-Region Second Team honors. In the A-10, she was named the Rookie of the Year and earned All-Conference First Team, All-Rookie Team and All-Tournament Team honors posting 56 points and 16 assists in 18 games.
UMass finished 2012 with a 19-2 overall record, a 7-0 mark in A-10 play and were ranked No. 10 nationally. The 19 wins marked the second most in program history, while the undefeated mark in league play was the second straight year the Minutewomen went through the conference regular-season without a loss.
UMass earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the past four years before falling at third-seeded and No. 3 ranked Maryland 15-12. The Minutewomen will open the 2013 season with a 20-game win streak alive against Atlantic 10 opponents.
