AMHERST, Mass. - As the 2012 college lacrosse season draws close, Major League Lacrosse held its College Draft on Friday with UMass seniors Anthony Biscardi and Tom Celentani being taken by the Ohio Machine and the Denver Outlaws, respectively. Biscardi was picked up in the second round (16th pick overall), while Celentani was chosen in the fourth round (30th overall).
Earlier this preseason the duo were also honored by the Inside Lacrosse as members of the 2012 Face-Off Yearbook All-America Teams. Biscardi was named to the second team, while Celentani was an honorable mention selection.
In 2011, Celentani started all 15 games causing 22 turnovers and picking up 34 groundballs. He ranked second on the team in caused turnovers and fourth in groundballs.
Celentani was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team after the 2011 campaign. One of the league's top defensemen, Celentani is often tasked with guarding an opponent's top attackman as he did in the CAA Semifinal game where he held Penn State All-CAA First-Team selection Matt Mackrides scoreless and forced the turnover that led to the game-winning goal.
Biscardi ranked third on the team in points with 20 goals and 10 assists while adding 28 groundballs. Three of his goals served as game-winners, while four were scored with the man-up advantage.
Following the 2011 season, Biscardi was named to the USILA Honorable Mention All-American Team, he was an All-New England selection and was a member of the All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team.
Last season, UMass made the CAA Championship game after Biscardi scored the game-winner in overtime at Penn State in the CAA Semifinals. UMass also claimed a share of the New England Championship, the team's 22nd NEILA title in program history.
The Minutemen will begin the 2012 season on February 10 at Army in West Point, N.Y.
