STORRS, Conn. - Behind Lauren Terracciano's five goals and three assists, the UMass women's lacrosse team defeated Connecticut 18-8 on Saturday afternoon. Alongside Terracciano's eight points, Danielle Pelletier added five points (4g, 1a), while Jesse O'Donnell added three goals. In all seven players recorded multi-point days as the Minutewomen won their second straight.

The Minutewomen will return to McGuirk Alumni Stadium to begin a four-game homestand starting Wednesday against Boston University (4 pm) before hosting Harvard on Saturday (1 PM).

UMass improves to 2-1 overall, while UConn opens its season at 0-1. The game was the first time UMass head coach Alexis Venechanos faced her former assistant Angela McMahon who took over the UConn program in 2009.

The Minutewomen took a 7-3 lead into halftime thanks to a pair of late goals by Danielle Pelletier and Haley Smith in the final two minutes of the period. Terracciano scored two of her five and added an assist in the first half. UConn's Jillian Cerar netted all three of the Huskies' goals in the first half.

The second half was all Minutewomen as they outscored UConn 11-5. UMass' Riley Perry opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the frame. The final 11:50 of the game was nearly all UMass as the Minutewomen scored six of the game's final seven goals. UConn's Mary Lapham posted four goals in the half.

In goal, Katie Florence made three saves in 57 minutes, 33 seconds of work, while Christina Fey finished the final 2 minutes, 27 seconds in relief making two saves. Jenna Moulton took the loss for UConn making eight saves.

For the game, UMass outshot UConn 38-to-21 including 21-to-12 in the second half. UMass also won the groundball battle 17-to-7 and held a 16-to-12 edge in draw controls.

After a season-opening loss to five-time defending national champion Northwestern, UMass has now won two straight outscoring opponents 33-to-14.
