AMHERST, Mass. - Following back-to-back Atlantic 10 Conference championships, UMass women's lacrosse first-year head coach Anglea McMahon has announced the 2011 schedule as announced today. The season will officially get under way on February 16 at Holy Cross and the schedule features eight home games, three games against 2010 NCAA Tournament teams and a doubleheader with the men's team at Garber Field.

Following the Holy Cross opener, UMass will host Vermont at McGuirk Stadium on February 19 to open the home schedule. The next three games, however, will all be on the road starting with Boston University which won the America East Conference last season to make the NCAA Tournament.

The Minutewomen will return from the three-game road swing on March 12 when they host Stony Brook at Garber Field. The following Saturday (March 19), UMass will also host Albany at Garber Field at 3 PM following the men's game against Penn State at Noon.

A road trip to last year's NCAA Tournament member Marist (March 22) sets up a Saturday night showdown with NCAA Finalist and five-time champion Northwestern at McGuirk Stadium (7 PM). It will be the second-ever women's lacrosse night game to be played at McGuirk as UMass hosted the Wildcats at night in 2009. The game will also pit McMahon and associate head coach Sarah Albrecht against their former coach Kelly Amonte Hiller.

UMass opens up its first four of seven home conference games against Temple on Friday, April 1 at McGuirk Stadium. Duquesne (April 8), George Washington (April 15) and Richmond on April 17 (Senior Day) are the rest of the home games.

The Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament will begin on April 29 at Temple where the Minutewomen won the 2009 championship. After making the NCAA Tournament in 2009, UMass earned a spot in the NCAA Play-In Game last season but fell at No. 15 Stanford to end the season.

The Minutewomen finished 2010 with a 10-10 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the Atlantic 10. Six of UMass' top seven point producers return for 2011 headlined by All-American and Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Jackie Lyons. UMass also returns the bulk of its defense anchored by senior Nazy Kerr and juniors Ali Houlis and Riley Perry. Katie Florence returns as the Minutewomen's top goalie after starting the previous two seasons.
