Chris Piekos Named UMass Athlete Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior goalkeeper Chris Piekos of the UMass men's soccer team has been chosen as the UMass Athlete of the Week. He will be honored at this week's Sports Luncheon this Wednesday in the Cape Cod Room of the Student Union at 12:15 PM.
This past weekend during the opener for the Atlantic 10 competition, Piekos started against Xavier (2-0) with a shut out and against Dayton (1-1) only allowing one goal for the tie. In two games Piekos had 10 saves, faced 33 shots, and only allowed 1 goal.
Piekos has 9 starts for the season, a 0.95 goals- against- average, and a .839 saves percentage. He also contributes two shutouts to his overall record of 1-2-6. In addition to being named UMass Athlete of the week, Piekos was also named A-10 Player of the Week.
The buffet style luncheon will run from 12:15-1:15 PM and is $11 per person. Please call Athletic Advancement at (413) 545- 4290 for details. Luncheons are open to the public.
Piekos and the Minutemen will be back in action this Saturday against Rhode Island at 7 PM in Kingston.
