WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Hartford's Carlos Villa scored twice late in the second half as the Hawks defeated the UMass men's soccer team 2-0 at Al-Marzook Field. Shane Curran-Hays played in goal for UMass making five saves. For the game, Hartford outshot the Minutemen 18-5.

UMass falls to 0-1-1 for the season, while Hartford improves to 2-0-0.

After a scoreless first half, Hartford turned up the pressure in the second frame. Villa scored his first goal of the game in the 70th minute on a free kick following a UMass yellow card.

Villa tallied again in the 76th minute when Ivan Guarin feed him a pass that he snuck inside the right of the goal giving Hartford a 2-0 lead.

The Minutemen earned a corner kick in the 87th minute, but were not able to produce a shot. For the second half, the Hawks defense allowed UMass just three shots total.

UMass returns to action this Friday and Sunday at the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Classic in Burlington, Vt. The Minutemen will face New Hampshire on Friday (1:30 PM) before facing host Vermont on Sunday (1:30 PM).
