BURLINGTON, Vt. - It was a defensive minded battle as the UMass men's soccer team battled New Hampshire to a 0-0 double overtime draw at the Smith Barney Nike Soccer Classic hosted by Vermont. The Minutemen will next face host Vermont on Sunday at 1:30 PM.
With the draw, UMass moves to 0-1-2 on the season, while the Wildcats are now 1-2-1 overall.
Junior Chris Piekos earned his second start of the season making seven saves to move to 0-0-2. Piekos and the UMass defense face 16 shots from the New Hampshire attack including eight in the first half alone.
Set pieces also threatened the Minutemen as UNH earned 10 corner kicks to just three for UMass.
The Minutemen managed five shots for the game with Wildcat keeper Colin O'Connell being forced to make just one save.
Midway through the first half Chris Roswess was fouled inside the 18-yard box earning the Minutemen a penalty kick. Matt Hess lined the shot low towards the left goal post, but O'Connell made the diving save deflecting the ball wide.
