Jackie Lyons Named To WomensLacrosse.com Team Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - After helping the UMass women's lacrosse team to the 2009 Atlantic 10 Tournament Title and the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 1984, sophomore attack Jackie Lyons has been named to the WomensLacrosse.com Team Of The Week. This is Lyons' third weekly honor after she was named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week and the WomensLax.com Player of the Week.
Lyons netted 13 points with seven goals and six assists en route to being named the Tournament MVP. She had a career-high eight points with five goals and three assists, including the overtime game-winner, in the championship game vs. Saint Joseph's.
The Rocky Point, N.Y. native now has 44 goals, 26 assists, and 70 points heading into the NCAA Tournament. She needs just four points to tie the UMass single-season record set by Whitney Thayer in 1981. Her 44 goals and 26 assists both rank sixth for a single-season at UMass.
For her career, the Atlantic 10 First Team selection has 53 goals, 30 assists and 83 points in 36 career games. Her 44 goals this season account for just over 21 percent of UMass' program-best 209 goals scored.
Lyons is UMass' second player this year to earn WomensLacrosse.com Team of the Week honors. Senior attack Meghan Reddy earned the honor on April 7 after scoring 12 points (8g, 4a) along with nine draw controls in a pair of wins against league foes Richmond and George Washington.
The Minutewomen have won 9 of their last 10 games heading into the NCAA Tournament. This will be the fourth time in program history that UMass has qualified for the tournament. In 1982, UMass won the first-ever NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament, while in 1983 and 1984 UMass finished as NCAA Semifinalists.
The 2009 NCAA Selection Show will be aired live on CBS College Sports on Sunday, May 3 at 10 PM EST. A total of 16 teams make the NCAA Tournament which will begin on Sunday, May 10th at 8 host campus sites.
