Temple Uses OT Goal Defeating Soccer 1-0

AMHERST, Mass. - Tyler Witmer scored a golden goal in the 104 minute of play on Friday afternoon giving Temple a 1-0 win over the UMass men's soccer team at Rudd Field. The Owls extend their win streak to six matches, while UMass' drops its second straight double OT game. The Minutemen will return to A-10 action on Sunday as Saint Joseph's visits Rudd Field.
The Owls improve to 7-4-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the Atlantic 10, while UMass falls to 4-4-3 overall and 1-2-0 in league play.
Witmer's goal came in the second overtime as the ball was played to the left post, but was redirected through a crowd towards an empty right side. Witmer crashed in putting home the game-winning goal.
The team's battled through a scoreless regulation with the Owls holding a 12-to-7 edge in shots. The Minutemen were able to get five shots off in both overtimes but were not able to connect on any.
The Minutemen also had the advantage in corner kicks, 6-to-2, but were unable to convert any of the set piece chances.
Brett Mollan earned the win for Temple making five saves for the shutout, while UMass keeper Chris Piekos finished with two.
