Box Score

AMHERST, Mass. - Stuart Amick and Andrew Henshaw each tallied second half goals as the UMass men's soccer team blanked Saint Joseph's 2-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field. Shane Curran-Hays earned the shutout in goal for the Minutemen who snapped a two-game losing skid. UMass returns to action at Rudd Field next Saturday (1 PM) against New England and league rival Rhode Island.

Both teams played a deadlocked first half as the sides adjusted to the slippery and cold conditions due to the rain which was steady throughout the match. The Hawks (0-11-0, 0-3-0 A-10) outshot UMass 6-to-3 in the frame.

In the second half, Amick put the Minutemen (5-4-3, 2-2-0 A-10) on the board first after Chris Roswess centered a cross from the right flank to the middle of the goal mouth. Amick came streaking in and touched home his first goal of the season at the 52:38 mark.

Henshaw scored his second career goal off a UMass corner kick from the right sideline. Mark Dangleis put the ball in play to the near post where Ben Arikian sent a low pass back towards the far post. Henshaw caught the defense out of position for the tap in goal.

The Minutemen outshot the Hawks 11-to-1 in the second half and earned five corner kicks.

The shutout win was the second of Curran-Hays' career - both this season. He made three saves on the day. Andrew D'Ottavi made seven stops in goal for Saint Joseph's.

Colin Baker managed six shots for the Hawks placing two on frame.
