AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's basketball team schedule is now complete as the Atlantic 10 office unveiled the conference schedule today. On Saturday, Jan. 10, the Minutewomen will play their first of 14 games on the A-10 slate, on the road at Fordham.
In its conference home opener, UMass will play host to Charlotte, who earned an at-large bid into the WNIT last season. The 49ers welcome back eight letterwinners from the squad that posted 18 wins in 2007-08 and will prove to be an early tough test for the Minutewomen.
UMass follows up with a trip to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Jan. 17, before returning home to face 2008 Atlantic 10 tournament champion Xavier on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The Musketeers return five starters and its top-eight scorers from 2007-08, including A-10 Rookie of the Year Ta'Shia Philips.
The Minutewomen will then play three of their next four games on the road, traveling to Richmond (Jan. 24), Rhode Island (Feb. 4), and Dayton (Feb. 7). Dayton, is coming off a 25-win season in 2007-08, in which the Flyers earned an at-large bid into the WNIT. In the midst of that road stretch, the one home contest for UMass will be on Saturday, Jan. 31, versus Saint Louis.
Massachusetts will head into the final stretch of the regular season with four of its final six games at the Mullins Center. On Feb. 11, 2007-08 co-regular season A-10 champion and NCAA tournament participant Temple comes to Amherst, followed by Duquesne on Saturday, Feb. 14.
UMass will travel to Washington, D.C., on Feb. 18 to take on George Washington, who shared the A-10 regular season crown with Temple in 2007-08 and made an NCAA appearance, as well. The Minutewomen then wrap up the conference schedule with home contests against Rhode Island (Feb. 22) and La Salle (Feb. 28), with a trip to St. Joseph's sandwiched in between (Feb. 28).
