The UMass Men's Soccer team came away with a 2-0 victory over La Salle on Friday evening thanks to goals from goals from Prince Ofosu and Ben Arikian. UMass (6-6-3, 4-1-1 A-10) now has a five game unbeaten streak (4-0-1) and remains in second place in the Atlantic 10 standings. Zach Simmons got the start in goal for UMass, making one save in the win. UMass returns to action on Sunday when they will travel to New York to take on Fordham at 1 PM.
The Minutemen carried the play in the first half, putting eight shots on goal and putting pressure on the La Salle defense. Massachusetts broke the scoreless deadlock in the 35th minute when Arikian netted his third goal of the season on a free kick that was just out of the reach of the La Salle netminder. The Minutemen also led the battle in corners during the first half with two.
UMass added an insurance goal in the final minute of regulation when Ofosu notched his team-leading fifth goal of the season. While on a breakaway run, Ofosu deeked the netminder and slid the ball into the net for the 2-0 lead.
