Late Run Gives UMass 13-8 Win Over Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. - UMass used a 5-1 run over the final 9:22 to defeat Vermont 13-8 on Wednesday afternoon at Moulton Winder Field. Sophomore Holly Drown (Nashua, N.H.) scored a hat trick and recorded 10 draw controls to lead the Minutewomen. UMass improves to 2-1 on the season, while Vermont falls to 0-1.
Along with Drown, junior Kathleen Typadis (Medfield, Mass.) also recorded a hat trick - the 15th of her career. With her three goals, she is now just one shy of cracking the all-time career goals-scored list at UMass. She also continued her scoring streak to 27 straight games.
The Minutewomen opened the game with a 3-0 run and led 8-4 at halftime. The UMass defense held the Catamounts scoreless for the first 7:51 of the game.
Vermont came out strong in the second half scoring the first three goals pulling within one, 8-7.
Senior Samantha Sepulveda (Freeport, N.Y.) scored on a free position attempt with 9:22 to play sparking the 5-0 run to put the game away.
Sophomores Julie Pasquantonio (Plainville, Mass.) and Claire Mancini (Hillsborough, Calif.) posted their first career goals to close out the UMass scoring on the day.
The Minutewomen will next face Harvard on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
