RICHMOND, Va. - No. 9 Richmond used a 37-to-22 shot advantage to defeat the UMass women's lacrosse team 15-5 on Sunday afternoon at First Market Stadium. Kaytlin McCormick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored three goals to lead the Minutewomen. UMass returns to action on Thursday at Saint Joseph's.
Caroline McGuire scored four goals as did Sara Allen to lead Richmond (11-2, 3-0 A-10). Eight Spiders tallied goals on the day.
Along with McCormick's hat trick, Kathleen Typadis (Medfield, Mass.) and Jeannette Villapiano (Ocean Township, N.J.) each recorded goals in the game to round out UMass' (3-9, 0-2 A-10) scoring.
Richmond used a controlling offensive attack going up 6-2 in the first half using a 20-to-10 shot advantage. The Spiders fired 17 shots in the second half connecting for nine goals. Richmond was also able to control the draw today holding a 13-to-6 advantage. Fouls were an issue for UMass as it tried to handle Richmond's offensive attack. The Minutewomen were whistled for 24 fouls on the day compared to just nine for the Spiders.
Sophomore Krissy Anderson (Baldwin, N.Y.) started in cage for UMass making 10 saves on the day.
