AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's lacrosse team snapped a three-game losing skid on Wednesday afternoon at Garber Field with a 16-9 win over Vermont. The Minutewomen were paced by freshman Holly Drown (Nashua, N.H.) who scored a career-high three goals in the win. UMass improved to 3-6 on the season and will host Boston College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Along with Drown, Kaytlin McCormick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Kristina Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y.), Samantha Sepulveda (Freeport, N.Y.) and Kathleen Typadis (Medfield, Mass.) each scored two goals to lead the offensive attack. Ten Minutewomen scored goals on the day.

Vermont (5-3) was led by Kristen Millar who had a game high five points on four goals and an assist. Jennifer Maher added two goals in the loss.

UMass led 9-4 at halftime en route to its largest point production for a game this season. The 16 goals were the most scored in a game by UMass since last season's 17-10 win over Longwood on April 22.

Vermont opened the scoring when Millar beat starting UMass keeper Lauren McCarthy (Derry, N.H.). UMass responded with a 5-0 run over the next three minutes and 14 seconds to take a 5-1 lead with 22:27 remaining in the first half.

Sepulveda scored with 12 minutes left in the half and then set up freshman Meghan Reddy (Salem, N.H.) to give UMass a 9-3 lead with just over 11 minutes to play in the period.

The Minutewomen used another 5-0 run to start the second half building its largest lead of the game, 14-4, when Drown scored her third goal of the game with 8:00 to play.

The Catamounts, however, were not done scoring five of the final seven goals of the game to pull within six, 15-9, on Millar's fourth goal of the day. With 59 seconds to play, UMass sophomore Jeannette Villapiano (Ocean City, N.J.) ended any further hopes of a comeback when she collected a loose ball at midfield and drove straight to goal for her seventh score of the season.

Twichell's two goals of the game was also a career-high along with Drown's three goals. For Sepulveda, this was the fourth consecutive game where she recorded a point. She now has 10 over the last four contests.

While she was shutout on the scoring end, senior Kerri Connerty (Nashua, N.H.) did post two assists to tie Barbara Forbes for seventh all-time in career assists and take sole possession of ninth-place all-time with 117 career points.

McCarthy started the game in cage for UMass making nine saves and allowing four goals in 37 minutes, five seconds of work to pick up the win. Sophomore Krissy Anderson (Baldwin, N.Y.) played 22 minutes, 55 seconds stopping three shots, but allowing five.

Vermont keeper Meaghan Hanley took the loss making eight saves on the day.

Statistically, the game was even with UMass holding a slight edge, 29-to-27, in shots. UMass committed a season-low 12 turnovers in the win, while forcing 17 by Vermont.

UMass will return home this Saturday when the Minutewomen host Boston College at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free for all.
