  • UMass, Vermont Square Off In Midweek Battle
    • The Minutewomen look to snap a three-game losing skid on Wednesday afternoon when they host Vermont at Garber Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. This will be just the 11th all-time meeting between the two squads with UMass holding an 8-2 record in the series.
    • The Minutewomen enter the game with a 2-6 record after losing to New Hampshire on Saturday. Vermont enters the game with a 5-2 record coming off a loss at UC Davis on Friday. The Catamounts are returning from a two-game road trip out to California where UVM also picked up a win against Saint Mary's.

    Leading The Minutewomen
    • UMass is led by sophomore Kathleen Typadis (Medfield, Mass.) and senior Kerri Connerty (Nashua, N.H.). Typadis leads the team with 19 points on 18 goals, while Connerty is second with 18 points on nine goals and a team-high nine assists. Sophomore Jeannette Villapiano (Ocean Township, N.J.) has already equalled her freshman year point total with 10 points on six goals and a career-high four assists through just four games. Junior Samantha Sepulveda (Freeport, N.Y.) has put up seven points over the last three games - her best production of the season.
    • Redshirt junior Lauren McCarthy (Derry, N.H.) started the season in cage, but sophomore Krissy Anderson has played well of late earning her first career start at Syracuse. Anderson picked up her first career win earlier this season at Albany. Anderson is 1-1 this season, while McCarthy is 1-5. McCarthy drew the start at Hofstra making 12 saves in the hard-luck loss.
    • Defensively, senior Jackie Nesbitt (Springfield, Pa.) anchors the defensive back with 21 groundballs, 13 caused turnovers and 15 draw controls. Junior Erica Shapiro (Norfolk, Mass.) also leads the squad with 21 groundballs and has caused seven turnovers.
    • As a team, UMass ranks 17th nationally in groundballs among 30 ranked teams. The Minutewomen collect on average 26.6 groundballs per game.

    Series With Vermont
    • This is just the 11th time UMass and Vermont have played in a series dating back 16 years. UMass is 8-2 all-time against the Catamounts.
    • The Minutewomen are riding a seven game win streak against UVM with their last loss coming on April 23, 1994.
    • The Minutewomen are 5-1 all-time in Amherst against Vermont.
    • The last time the two teams met was almost exactly five years ago as UMass beat Vermont 18-2 in Burlingon on March 28, 2001.

    Connerty Climbs The Charts
    • Senior Kerri Connerty (Nashua, N.H.) continues to move up the all-time charts in UMass scoring history. She posted two goals and had an assist against New Hampshire (3/25) to move into ninth all-time in career points and take over sole possession of eighth all-time in career assists. On her current pace, Connerty is projected to finish as high as fifth all-time in assists. Cari Nickerson is the all-time career leader in assists with 106. Connerty now has 76 goals and 113 career points. She needs just 13 goals to move into the all-time top-10 for that category.
    • Connerty's 17-game scoring streak came to an end at Dartmouth (3/8). In her career she has tallied 17 multi-point games and seven hat tricks.

Kerri Connerty's 115 career points ranks ninth all-time at UMass.

    Nesbitt Anchors Defense
    • Senior Jackie Nesbitt (Springfield, Pa.) has been a mainstay over her career in the defensive back. Wednesday afternoon will mark her 40th consecutive start for UMass in 58 career games. In that span she has collected 121 groundballs, 57 draw controls and caused 62 turnovers. She has also tallied 12 goals and four assists for 16 points.
    • Nesbitt ranks among the all-time top UMass defenders in groundballs, caused turnovers, and draw controls (those became official NCAA statistics in 2001). She ranks second all-time in groundballs, fifth in draw controls, and fifth in caused turnovers.
    • She needs four draw controls to move into third all-time at UMass and 13 caused turnovers to move into second. To take the UMass lead in groundballs, however, she has some work to do as former UMass defensive standout Kristin St. Hilaire holds that mark with 166. St. Hilaire was the only Minutewoman ever to collect over 100 groundballs and cause over 100 turnovers.

    No Sophomore Slump For Typadis
    • Sophomore Kathleen Typadis (Medfield, Mass.) is once again off to a strong start to lead UMass with 19 points on 18 goals. For her career, she has 54 goals in just 25 games - including nine hat tricks.
    • On her current scoring pace, Typadis could end her career as the second-highest goal scorer in UMass history at a 151 projected goals. Pam Moryl - who helped UMass to the first-ever women's lacrosse NCAA Championship in 1982 and two NCAA fourth-place finishes - holds the UMass record for career goals with 170.

    Sammy's Getting Hot
    • Over the last three games, junior Samantha Sepulveda (Freeport, N.Y.) has been one of the most consistent Minutewomen on the offensive side of the ball. Sepulveda has seven points on six goals and an assist.
    • Sepulveda has tallied points in five of the last six games.

Kathleen Typadis has 54 goals in just 25 games.

    A First For Shapiro
    • Against New Hampshire (3/25), junior Erica Shapiro (Norfolk, Mass.) recorded a first for her career. Shapiro, a defender who has started in the last 25 consecutive games, picked up her first career point at UMass as she set up Lauren Reid's (Portland, Maine) first goal of the season.
    • Shapiro is on pace to have a career year defensively. She currently is tied for the team lead with 21 groundballs which is just seven shy of her 2005 season total of 28. Shapiro has also caused seven turnovers on the year.

    Villapiano Stepping Up
    • Sophomore Jeannette Villapiano (Ocean Township, N.J.) has already equaled her freshman point toal through four games played this season. Villapiano has 10 points entering the New Hampshire game with six goals and four assists from her midfield position.
    • Villapiano - who wears head coach Carrie Bolduc's No. 30 from her Syracuse days - had eight goals and two assists in her rookie campaign.

Anderson Making An Impression In Cage
    • Sophomore Krissy Anderson (Baldwin, N.Y.) did not play one minute last season as a freshman. In the loss earlier this season to Boston University, she played in her first-ever game as a Minutewoman playing nearly the final six minutes. In those few minutes, however, fans received a glimpse of what was to come. Despite giving up a goal, Anderson made to strong saves to finish the game.
    • Ten days later, Anderson picked up her first win as she relieved incumbent starter Lauren McCarthy. In just over 33 minutes of work, Anderson made six saves while allowing just three goals.
    • The next game out at Syracuse, Anderson earned her first career start. Despite taking the loss, Anderson did make a career-high 16 saves. Impressive considering she had quite a bit of nervousness before the game ... "I was shaking when they called out the starting line-up ... it took a couple of shots before I got settled in."

Kaytlin McCormick is off to a great start with 12 goals which ranks third on the team.

    Fantastic Freshmen
    • Holly Drown (Nashua, N.H.), Kaytlin McCormick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Jackie Rosenzweig (South Massapequa, N.Y.) and Meghan Reddy (Salem, N.H.) have already made big impacts to start their careers at UMass having found regular starting rolls.
    • McCormick is the team's third-leading scorer with 13 points on 12 goals, while Reddy has six points having scored in five of her first six games.
    • Drown is a strong addition to the midfield both defensively and offensively. She has three goals this season and started the first six games of the season. She has missed the last two games, Hofstra and New Hampshire, due to an inflamed ribcage.
    • Rosenzweig has started every game in the defensive back and has 10 caused turnovers which ranks second on the team.

McCormick Named A-10 Rookie Of the Week (2/27)
    • Freshman Kaytlin McCormick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was been named the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Rookie of the Week (2/27) following her performance at Holy Cross. McCormick tallied four goals, three in the second half, on five shots to lead the Minutewomen in her collegiate debut. Despite playing the game in nearly two inches of snow, she also collected four groundballs and caused three turnovers.
    • McCormick was a 2005 graduate of Saratoga Springs where she was a two-time U.S. Lacrosse All-American. She also earned the honor for field hockey (2005) and was a First-Team Section 2 honoree in both field hockey and lacrosse (2004, 2005). She became the first female student-athlete at Saratoga Springs to be named a two-time All-American as well as Section 2 MVP.

A New York State Of Mind
    • Despite being the flagship school of Massachusetts, the Minutewomen have several team members who hail from the Empire State. New York is the most represented state on this season's roster as seven team members call the state home.
    • Head coach Carrie Bolduc is an Albany native, while assistant coach Jen Nardi is from Valley Cottage, N.Y.
    • Along with Twichell and Papaleo, Jackie Rosenzweig, Alana Jakas, Samantha Sepulveda, Krissy Anderson, and Katylin McCormick are all from New York.

This is the 25th anniversary of UMass winning the inaugural NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship title.

    Happy 25th Anniversary!
