SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Despite a three-goal effort from sophomore Kathleen Typadis, UMass fell 15-9 at No. 13 Syracuse on Wednesday night in the Carrier Dome. The Minutewomen fall to 2-4 on the season, while the Orange improve to 4-2. Syracuse used a 5-0 run bridging halftime to break open the game after UMass had tied the game 6-6. Krissy Anderson (pictured) made her first collegiate start in cage making a career-high 16 saves.

Typadis led all players with four points on the day. She has now scored 51 goals in 23 career games played. Sophomore Jeannette Villapiano (Ocean Township, N.J.) add two goals and an assist in the loss as did senior Kerri Connerty (Nashua, N.H.). Connerty now ranks ninth all-time with 37 career assists.

Five players scored two goals each for Syracuse led by Caitlyn Dragon who tallied twice and added an assist.

UMass jumped out to a 3-1 lead as Connerty connected twice and Typadis added her first goal of the game in the first seven minutes of the game. The Minutewomen added two more goals after a Dragon score to go up 5-3 with 21:13 left in the game.

Bridget Hamm scored twice and Bridget Looney added another tally with 13:17 remaining in the first to give the Orange a 6-5 lead. Villapiano tied the game with just eight minutes to play to tie the game at 6-6 before Syracuse took over.

UMass twice pulled within four goals in the second half, but could not close the gap further.

Syracuse held a 35-to-16 advantage in shots for the game and a 35-to-24 edge in groundballs. UMass committed 21 turnovers and 32 fouls in the contest compared to just 12 turnovers and 21 fouls for the Orange.

Jen Kasel picked up the win for Syracuse making three saves in just over 50 minutes of work. Ashley Pike made her first collegiate start, but lasted just nine minutes, 43 seconds giving up five goals and making two saves.

UMass will take the next week off before heading to Hofstra next Wednesday, March 22 in Hempstead, N.Y.
