Three Women's Lacrosse Recruits Named High School All-American

AMHERST, Mass. - Three incoming freshman for the University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team have been named 2005 U.S. Lacrosse Girls High School All-Americans. Kaytlin McCormick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Holly Drown (Nashua, N.H.) were named to the first team, while Jamie Lee Whiteway (Billerica, Mass.) was named an honorable mention.

For Drown, this was here first selection to the All-America First Team. As a junior in 2004 she was named to the honorable mention team. The midfielder will join her sister, Tracey, who is entering her second year as the assistant coach of the Minutewomen.

A 2005 graduate of Nashua South High School, Drown led the Purple Panthers to a 56-11 record during her career and was named the 2004 and 2005 New Hampshire Telegraph Player of the Year. She also played on the New Hampshire State Champion basketball team.

McCormick earns her second All-American honor as she was also named to the first team as a junior.

A 2005 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, McCormick also earned All-American honors for field hockey as a senior. She was a First-Team Section 2 honoree in both field hockey and lacrosse (2004, 2005) and a two-time Player of the Year in lacrosse. The accolades made her the first female student-athlete at Saratoga Springs to be named a two-time All-American as well as Section 2 MVP.

During her career, she led the Blue Streaks to a 56-13 record and their first New York Section II title since 1994. She finished her career with 202 goals, 65 assists, 144 groundballs and 89 draw controls.

Earning a spot on the honorable mention list was Whiteway who is an incoming goalkeeper. She was the 2004 Merrimack Valley Player of the Year and a two-time Lower New England selection.

A member of the Massachusetts Elite team, Whiteway was also the team captain of the cross country team and a member of the indoor track team. Her quickness in goal is enhanced by her black belt in Kung Fu - the highest level of the martial art form.
