AMHERST, Mass. - Salem High School women's lacrosse standout Meghan Reddy (Salem, N.H.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Massachusetts next season announced UMass head coach Carrie Bolduc.
"Meghan is a super athlete with very quick hands and the potential to develop and mature at the collegiate level," said head coach Carrie Bolduc. "She is a fluid, natural player who is a Kathleen Typadis-type player."
A Second-Team Division I All-New Hampshire selection as a junior, Reddy scored 106 points (64 goals, 42 assists) in 2004 from her midfield/attack positions.
This season, Reddy serves as captain of the squad which enters just its second season as a varsity program at Salem. In addition to playing for SHS, she was a member of the Team Revolution club squad which is comprised of lacrosse athletes from all over New England.
Along with lacrosse, she was a member of the women's soccer and basketball teams. As a goalie on the soccer team, she led SHS to a Final Four appearance in the state playoffs last season and earned the team's Sportsmanship Award.
Reddy is familiar with one of her soon-to-be teammates as she has faced Holly Drown in both soccer and lacrosse. Drown, the sister of current UMass assistant coach and former All-American Tracey Drown, attends rival high school Nashua.
The two faced off in the fall with Reddy taking a 2-1 win on the soccer pitch. The lacrosse match-up is soon to come this spring.
This completes the five-player recruiting class for UMass. Reddy joins Drown, Kaytlin McCormick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Julie Pasquantonio (Plainville, Mass.), and Jamie Whiteway (Billerica, Mass.).
The class is made up of four midfielders/attacks and one goalie (Whiteway). The Minutewomen have just three seniors on the 2005 roster: Judy Kestner, Joey Rubin and Kristin St. Hilaire.
