St. Hilaire Named A-10 Defensive Player Of The Year

AMHERST, Mass. - Junior captain Kristin St. Hilaire (Syracuse, N.Y.), of the women's lacrosse team, was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, announced by the A-10 this afternoon. Also announced was the All-Conference Team, featuring senior captain Tracey Drown (Nashua, N.H.), senior Hope Zelinger (Ellicott City, Md.) and St. Hilaire. Zelinger was named to the Academic All-Conference team as well.
St. Hilaire anchors the Massachusetts defense. Despite playing most of the season with an ankle injury that has not yet fully recovered, St. Hilaire leads the team with 40 groundballs and 23 caused opponent turnovers. She is also the one UMass looks for to cover the opponents' best offensive threat. She showed her strength as a defender when she held Duquesne's Ginger Flocco to just three goals in Massachusetts' win.
Drown leads the team in points with 61 and assists with 17, and is second on the team in goals scored with 44. The Nashua, N.H. native is also second on the team in groundballs, gathering 24. Drown has twice been named Honorable Mention National Player of the Week, Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse Player of the Week, and UMass / Dinn Brothers Athlete of the Week. She is currently seventh all-time at UMass for single-season points (61) and stands at fourth in single-season goals scored with 44.
Zelinger is the team's leading goal-scorer, hitting the back of the net 45 times, to go along with 10 assists, for a total of 55 points. She is currently third on UMass' all-time lists for single-season goals (45), sixth for career goals (102) seventh for career points (136) and ninth for single-season points (55). Zelinger has maintained a career GPA of 3.36 as a School of Management major.
