Women's Lacrosse Rallies Over Albany, 17-15

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team (3-8) topped Albany (4-7) this afternoon, 17-15. The comeback was led by senior attacker Hope Zelinger (Ellicott City, Md.), who scored four of her six goals in the second half, as Massachusetts tallied four goals in the final six minutes of play.
After Albany took a 14-13 lead with 6:30 left to play, Massachusetts responded with four consecutive goals to go ahead for good. Zelinger tied the contest as she spun to her left after hauling in a feed from freshman midfielder Brianna Bubeck (Selkirk, N.Y.). Sophomore midfielder Kerri Connerty (Nashua, N.H.) put her team in front on a free-position shot with 4:48 left, before Tracey Drown (Nashua, N.H.) found the right side of the net just 37 seconds later on another free-position opportunity.
The Great Danes ran off five unanswered goals in the first half en route to a 10-5 advantage. Freshman attack Krissy Rajczak, who matched a season-best performance with four goals and two assists, scored three times in that stretch. Kate Fontana, a freshman midfielder who totaled three goals and one assist, added a free-position tally during the outburst.
Massachusetts would eventually draw even at 10 apiece with 13:22 remaining in the final period. Bubeck, who netted three of her four goals after the intermission, tied the game off a crossing pass from Connerty. The contest went back-and-forth over the next seven minutes, as neither team had more than a one-goal margin.
The Minutewomen will be back in action on Sunday, April 18, as they return to Atlantic 10 action, as they host Temple at Garber Field.
