Emery's Late Goal Boosts Minutewomen

OLEAN, N.Y. -- Senior Jada Emery (Princeton, N.J.) scored with 31 seconds left to the UMass women's lacrosse team to a thrilling 14-13 victory over St. Bonaventure in a key Atlantic 10 battle. With the win, UMass moves to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
St. Bonaventure led 2-1 six minutes into the game, but the Minutewomen scored the game's next six goals to take a 7-2 advantage with 12 minutes to play. Lydia Robinson (Summit, N.J.) scored three times in the run and Maura McGarrity (Chester Springs, Pa.) added two goals to give the Minutewomen control of the contest. The two teams then traded goals for the rest of the first half, with UMass leading 10-6 at the break.
The Bonnies came out strong in the second half, scoring the first two goals of the half to crawl to within two at 10-8, but Robinson tallied her fifth goal of the game at the 18:36 mark for an 11-8 lead. Hope Zelinger (Ellicott City, Md.) and Robison pushed the lead to 13-9 with 12:33 to play, before St. Bonaventure started its rally, scoring four goals over the next eight minutes to tie the game at 13-13 with four minutes to play.
Emery then tallied her lone goal of the game with just 31 seconds to play, and the Minutewomen ran out the clock to earn their 10th win of the season, 14-13.
UMass will be in action next with a road contest at North Carolina on April 24. Face-off is slated for 1:30 p.m.
