CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Jada Emery (Princeton, N.J.) tallied five goals to lift the Minutewomen over Harvard, 12-7, at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass. Saturday afternoon. The victory improves UMass' record to 2-1 and drops Harvard to 0-2 on the season.
The game was close throughout much of the first half with both teams trading goals for a 3-3 score. However, Emery provided a spark of offense for the Minutewomen right before intermission and scored two goals to give UMass a 5-3 advantage after the first 30 minutes of play.
Emery came out firing in the second half as well, scoring the first three goals of the half. Harvard's Jen Brooks put a stop to Emery's five straight goals when she tallied a goal to make the score 8-4. Massachusetts answered Brooks' goal with four straight goals of its own to give UMass a 12-4 lead.
Harvard tallied three more goals in the second half but UMass' offense was too much to overcome as the Minutewomen posted a 12-7 victory.
In goal for UMass, senior Cyndi Doyle (Bridgewater, Vt.) recorded 12 saves to help preserve the team's win.
