AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Athletic Director Ian McCaw has selected former Minutewoman assistant coach Carrie Bolduc to serve as UMass' interim head women's lacrosse coach for the 2003 season.
Bolduc spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach with the Minutewomen, and replaces Phil Barnes, who moved to Cornell (N.Y.) in late summer as an assistant coach.
A 1999 graduate of Syracuse University with an art education degree, Bolduc enjoyed an outstanding collegiate lacrosse playing career at both Temple and Syracuse.
She spent her first two college seasons at Temple, where she was a member of the Owls' 1997 NCAA Final Four team which lost to eventual champion Maryland. Following her sophomore season, Bolduc transferred to Syracuse and became a key member of the Orangewomen's inaugural team. She served as team captain at Syracuse during both her junior and senior seasons, earning Northeast All-America honors in 1999, when the school claimed the ECAC title.
A native of Albany, N.Y., Bolduc attended Albany Academy for Girls where she played with former UMass player Kara DePaula. A member of the 1999 and 2000 championship Empire State Games open team, she was named tournament MVP in 1999, and was a teammate of former UMass captain Lynne Young.
Bolduc also has international playing experience with the Canadian National Team.
