UMass Men's Soccer Alumni Weekend A Success

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Men's Soccer Team hosted their annual Alumni weekend on Saturday, May 5th. The weekend began with the Alumni watching the present Minutemen team play two games against Dartmouth College (2-0), and UMass-Lowell (3-1). This was followed with the traditional Alumni game versus the present team. In an entertaining game, the Alumni team mostly comprised of the 91' team showed the form that was evident when they graced the fields in the 1990's. The Alumni put on an exhibition to end up with a convincing 4-2 victory. An interesting event in the game was the appearance of our top-goal scorer for the spring Jeff Deren as a goalkeeper. Unfortunately, Deren's goal-keeping skills were not as good as his goal-scoring skills as he conceded three goals against the Alumni! A great game played by two teams of different generations, but both playing with the same Minutemen commitment and skill. The day was ended with the Team Awards/ Alumni Dinner at the Hall of Fame Room in the Mullins Center. There was a big turn out by parents, friends, administration, and Alumni to make the evening a memorable occasion. During the dinner, the team of 91' was recognized and announced as the first inductees of the UMass Men's Soccer Wall of Fame. Also recognized was Granville Pruyne, class of 32' who was an All-American in 1932. Mr. Pruyne gave a speech and received a standing ovation for his participation and support of the Men's Soccer program. Special thanks also went to Matt Bearce who generously supplied the Alumni soccer polos! The list of team awards and alumni present for the weekend are as follows:
