PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Temple University broke open a tight game in the second half to record a 11-7 victory over the University of Massachusetts Sunday, April 8, afternoon. The win raises Temple's record to 5-4 overall, 1-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference while UMass falls to 2-7 overall, 1-1 in the Atlantic 10.
Jen Jefferson led the Owls with three goals. Deanna Radcliffe (2 goals) and Liz Frengs added two-goals late in the game to seal the victory. The Owls overcame a 3-1 first half deficit to knot the score at 4-4 at the half. The game was tight throughout most of the contest. The teams were locked in a 6-6 tie in the second half when the Owls outscored UMass 5-1 from that point to separate themselves from the Minutewomen. Junior goalkeeper Sheena Oommen (5-4) recorded seven saves to preserve the win for the Owls.
Rachel Ingraffea (Ithaca, N.Y.) was the only Minutewomen with more than one goal as she recorded her fourth hat trick of the season.
UMass is off until Friday, April 13, when it plays host to Duquesne University at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, the Minutewomen host the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure University at 2:00 p.m.
