Men's Soccer Defeats Binghamton, 2-0

AMHERST, Mass. -- Sophomore Jeff Deren (Chicopee, Mass.) scored two goals as the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team defeated Binghamton, 2-0, this afternoon at Totman Field. With the win, head coach Sam Koch becomes only the second coach in the history of the program to earn 100 wins at UMass. UMass is now 4-3-0, while Binghamton falls to 1-5-1.
The Minutemen took the lead early in the game as Deren scored off a pass from sopomore Yuri Morales (Santa Cruz, Calif.), as the two broke free on a two-on-one at 21:34. In the second half, the Minutemen extended their lead as Deren headed a throw-in from senior Seth Lilburn (Boonton Township, N.J.) to make it 2-0 at 45:52.
UMass junior goalkeeper Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) anchored the defense with two saves, while Gianni DiCiollo made 10 saves for the Bearcats.
UMass outshot Binghamton, 20-4, while holding a 13-6 advantage in corner kicks.
The Minutemen return to action Sunday, Sept. 24, 1:00 p.m., at Totman Field as they host the Fresno State.
