Men's Soccer Tops Siena, 2-1

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Sophomore Derek Rhodes (DePere, Wis.) and sophomore Jeff Deren (Chicopee, Mass.) each scored a goal as the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team defeated Siena, 2-1, this afternoon at Siena. With the win, UMass improves to 2-3-0 on the season, while Siena drops to 2-4-1.
Rhodes scored the first goal of the game after a scoreless first half when he scored on a cross from sophomore Yuri Morales (Santa Cruz, Calif.) at the 47:51 mark. Twelve minutes later at the 59:48 mark, Deren gave UMass a two goal lead with an assist to Morales.
At the 82:10 mark, Siena's Patrick Wren headed in a throw-in from Jeff Lewis, but that would be as close as the Saints would get.
Junior goalie Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) made five saves to anchor the UMass defense.
The Minutemen return to action when they host New Hampshire on Wed., Sept. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
