Men's Soccer Defeats New Hampshire, 3-1

AMHERST, Mass. -- Sophomore Jeff Deren (Chicopee, Mass.) scored two goals as the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team defeated New Hampshire, 3-1, this afternoon at Totman Field. With the win, UMass improves to 3-3-0, while the Wildcats fall to 3-4-0.
Drew Ferrigno gave the Wildcats an early lead when he scored off a header from a throw in from Doug Lawver at the 24:26 mark.
The Minutemen tied the game at the 54:27 mark when sophomore Yuri Morales (Santa Cruz, Calif.) put the ball in the lower left of the net with an assist to junior Shawn Green (Marshfield, Mass.). Five minutes later at the 59:44 mark, Deren gave UMass the lead for good when he scored off a cross from junior Fred Kinateder (Waukesha, Wis.) with an assist also given to Morales.
The Minutemen put the game away when Deren scored off a rebound from a shot from freshman Devlin Barnes (Bethesda, Md.).
UMass goalie junior Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) anchored the UMass defense with four saves, while Shaun O'Neil also had four for the Wildcats.
UMass held a 14-6 shot advantage, while it had a 5-2 corner kick advantage.
The Minutemen return to action when they host the UMass Classic on Friday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 24. On Friday, the Minutemen take on Binghamton at 2:00 p.m., while on Sunday, they take on Fresno State at 1:00 p.m.
