PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team was named the second seed for this weekend's Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championship to be played at Totman Field on May 6 and 7, it was announced by the A-10 office.
The Minutewomen finished the regular season in a three-way tie for first-place with Temple and Virginia Tech. All three schools went 5-1 in league play and were one and one versus each other. After exhausting every tie-breaker A-10 commissioner Linda Bruno conducted a draw to determine the seeds. The draw resulted in Temple being awarded the top seed. UMass was seeded second, marking the second consecutive year that the Minutewomen have been seeded second in the A-10 Championship.
UMass will play third seeded Virginia Tech in the second semifinal on Saturday at Totman Field. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Temple plays fourth seeded Duquesne in Saturday's first semifinal at 12:00 p.m. The winners of the two semifinal games will meet Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for the championship game at Totman Field.
Virginia Tech (9-7, 5-1 A-10) claimed last year's A-10 championship by beating UMass in the semifinals and Temple in the finals. The Hokies defeated the Minutewomen 8-6 on April 14, at Totman Field.
UMass enters this weekend's A-10 Championship having won six of its last eight games to close out the regular season.
