PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Senior Rebecca Minaker (Newton, Mass.) and junior Rachel Ingraffea (Ithaca, N.Y.) each scored two goals to lead the University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team to an 11-1 victory over Duquense today in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Minutewomen improve to 4-5 (2-0 Atlantic 10) this season with the win, while the Dukes drop to 5-2 (1-1 Atlantic 10).
UMass scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game, with Ingraffea putting the Minutewomen on the board at the 27:31 and Naber adding a goal at the 24:59. UMass then registered five more goals to end the first period with a 7-0 lead over Duquesne. Senior Melissa Miele (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and freshman Kelli Kurtz (Schwenksville, Pa.) chipped in goals at the 8:56 and 6:20, respectively, while Ingraffea tallied her second goal of the day at the 3:11 with the assist by junior Fay Naber (Suffern, N.Y.). The final two goals in the first period came from Minaker and senior Stephanie Pavlick (Blue Bell, Pa.) at the 2:54 and 0:09 marks, respectively.
The Minutewomen scored three more goals in the second period to take a commanding 10-0 advantage over the Dukes. Minaker posted her second goal of the game at the 20:44, while junior Denise Brey (Tabernacle, N.J.) added a goal at the 15:59. Senior Sara MacNabb (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) registered another goal 54 seconds later for UMass at the 15:05, but then Duquesne would find itself on the board for the first time in the game as Kris Harner netted a goal at the 12:31. Senior Lynne Young (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) recorded the final goal in the game for the Minutewomen at the 4:40.
UMass is next in action on April 14th, when they will play host to Virginia Tech at 3 p.m.
