PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Senior midfielders Noelle Gorski (Cicero, N.Y.) and Stephanie Pavlick (Blue Bell, Pa.) scored three goals a piece to lead the University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team to a 16-5 victory over La Salle.
Gorski opened the scoring with an unassisted goal less than five minutes into the game. Pavlick followed with a score to give UMass a 2-0 lead. La Salle responded with a goal to cut the lead to one. Junior Fay Naber (Suffern, N.Y.) then scored off a feed from junior Rachel Ingraffea (Ithaca, N.Y.), and then Ingraffea scored to put UMass ahead 4-1 at the 17:22 mark of the first half.
The Explorers netted the next two goals to cut the Minutewomen lead to 4-3 before UMass managed to score three goals in the final two minutes of the half. Gorski scored her second and third goals of the game followed by a goal from freshman Lydia Robinson (Summit, N.J.) to give UMass a 7-3 halftime lead.
The Minutewomen continued to control most of the play in the game during the second half getting single goals from Naber, junior Denise Brey (Tabernacle, N.J.), freshman Leslie Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y.), senior Katie Carey (Abington, Pa.) and senior Melissa Miele (Drexel Hill, Pa.). Pavlick closed out her hat trick by netting her team-leading 29th and 30th goals of the season.
Junior goaltender Jen Nardi (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) made 14 saves in the cage for the Minutewomen, while freshman Cyndi Doyle (Bridgewater, Vt.) came in and made two saves in the second half.
With the victory, UMass closes out the regular season with an 8-7 overall record and a 5-1 league mark. La Salle falls to 3-12 overall and 1-5 in the A-10 with the loss.
The Minutewomen return to action next weekend as UMass plays host to the 2000 Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse championship at Totman Field. Semifinal games will be played at 12:00 and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May, 6, while the championship game will be played at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7.
